Swedish Dermatology - First Hill Introduce
Swedish Dermatology - First Hill is a medical practice located in the heart of Seattle, offering a range of essential dermatological services to the local community. As a part of the larger Swedish health network, the clinic is focused on providing professional and factual care for various skin conditions. While many "skin care clinics" in the area may focus on cosmetic treatments, Swedish Dermatology - First Hill distinguishes itself by concentrating on medical and surgical dermatology. This distinction is crucial for local residents seeking specialized care for skin health concerns rather than purely aesthetic enhancements. The clinic's mission is to address acute and chronic dermatological issues, ensuring patients receive the necessary medical attention for their skin's well-being. This focus on health and medical necessity makes it a key resource for Washingtonians who need a reliable and expert dermatology provider for issues ranging from routine checks to more serious conditions.
The experience at any medical facility is shaped by multiple factors, from the administrative staff to the medical professionals. While some patients have reported positive interactions with front office staff, experiences can vary. It's important for patients to be prepared for the medical nature of the clinic's services, which are focused on diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of skin diseases, as opposed to the more customer service-oriented environment often found in cosmetic-focused practices. The clinic is committed to providing care for a wide range of dermatological needs, including the management of chronic conditions, and their team is composed of providers with a strong background in medical and surgical dermatology.
Swedish Dermatology - First Hill is located at 515 Minor Ave Suite 210, Seattle, WA 98104. This address places it within the bustling First Hill neighborhood, known as a hub for medical facilities and services. Its location offers a central point of access for many Seattle residents and those in surrounding communities. Being part of the Swedish network means it is often close to other key medical resources and is well-integrated into the local healthcare ecosystem. For those traveling to the clinic, it is important to be mindful of the urban environment. Parking in the First Hill area can be a challenge, so patients may want to give themselves extra time to find a spot or consider using public transportation, which is widely available in this part of the city. The accessibility via bus routes and proximity to major Seattle thoroughfares makes the clinic a practical choice for residents across the region who require specialized medical attention.
The services offered at Swedish Dermatology - First Hill are comprehensive and medically-focused. They are designed to address a wide array of dermatological conditions and are performed by board-certified dermatologists. The clinic's services are purely medical and surgical, with an explicit statement that they do not provide cosmetic treatments.
Medical Dermatology: The clinic offers diagnosis and management for a broad spectrum of acute and chronic skin conditions. This includes common issues like acne, eczema, and psoriasis, as well as more complex inflammatory skin disorders.
Surgical Dermatology: For conditions that require surgical intervention, the clinic provides services for the removal of both benign and malignant skin lesions. This is a critical service for patients with skin cancer or other growths that need to be excised.
Skin Cancer Screening: An essential preventive service, the clinic conducts thorough screenings to detect and treat skin cancer at its earliest stages. This proactive approach is vital for maintaining long-term skin health, especially in a region where sun exposure can still be a concern.
Patch Testing: The clinic also offers patch testing, a specialized service used to identify substances that may be causing allergic contact dermatitis. This helps patients pinpoint the cause of their skin irritations and manage their condition more effectively.
The features and highlights of Swedish Dermatology - First Hill are rooted in its medical purpose and its connection to a major healthcare system. This provides a certain level of institutional reliability that many patients seek.
Specialization in Medical and Surgical Dermatology: The clinic's primary highlight is its dedicated focus on medical, rather than cosmetic, services. This makes it an appropriate choice for patients with serious skin conditions who need specialized medical care.
Integration with the Swedish Health Network: Being part of a large and established healthcare system like Swedish offers patients the benefit of a connected network of providers and services. This can be beneficial for coordinated care and referrals to other specialists.
Expert Staff and Providers: The clinic is staffed by providers who are board-certified and have extensive training in dermatology. Dr. Hugh Nymeyer, for example, is noted for his background in both physics and medicine, which contributes to a unique and analytical approach to patient care. His mission is to provide high-quality, patient-centered care and he enjoys treating a wide variety of conditions with both medical and surgical approaches.
Location in a Medical Hub: The First Hill neighborhood is home to numerous hospitals and medical offices, creating a centralized location for healthcare needs. This can be a significant convenience for patients who have multiple appointments or require other services in the area.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I like Swedish healthcare. I don't like their billing department and the customer service. They charged my credit card $35 twice for the same visit copay, but only applied one payment to my account. I believe the other $35 was intentionally stolen by somebody within the billing system, or it would have shown up as a payment on my account. When I called billing, they told me to call the clinic. When I called the clinic, they told me to call billing. The classic runaround.Simply, don't pay at the time of visit, and only pay their bill after you have received the Explanation of Benefits from your insurance and have reviewed it and make sure it matches what Swedish billing is saying.
May 21, 2025 · Like HikesThe front office ladies were amazing, however the rest of my experience was so uncomfortable. The assistant who took me to the room had no energy, I asked how she was and she just told me to go to room 9, and she repeated things unnecessarily - her badge said “I’m dead inside” which is kind of funny but I felt like I wanted to tell her to go take a nap or day off.The doctor, Hugh Nymeyer made me feel even more uncomfortable. He had no emotional awareness and blurted things out condescendingly. There was a lack of empathy and I left my appointment feeling like it was a waste of my time. Also, when shaking someone’s hand you should let go after shaking and should not hold on to it. At one point we were holding hands and I felt so awkward. Strange encounter.
Apr 16, 2025 · Cayenne DrummondDr. Chen was so good! She took her time, addressed my questions and provided me with answers. She signed her note and it was available to view same day.Wear your sunscreen guys!!
Jun 10, 2025 · Shanda RodriguezI was a patient in the past (over 3 years) and the experience was fine (which is why they get two stars). Recently, wanted to start up the once-a-year mole check (WHICH IS STANDARD BEST PRACTICE) and they require a referral. I have a PPO plan, so my insurance does NOT require a referral. Why do you require a referral for a preventative care best practice??? Also new patients are scheduling over 6 months out. I'll be going elsewhere even though most of my care is at Swedish. Having patients jump through needless hoops to schedule preventative care is extremely customer unfriendly.
Jul 08, 2024 · Sandi HungerfordI’ve had nothing but an excellent experience here. Dr Hu is thoughtful and conservative in his approach. He doesn’t charge needlessly high prices for his services (such as Botox), and won’t recommend products that are unnecessary or hyped. I’ve recommended him to a number of friends. I’ve seen probably 4-5 different seems for the aforementioned treatment, and Dr Hu has delivered the best results even compared to Botox specialists with offices full of advertisements for cosmetic procedures. His expertise speaks for itself.
