SkyMD Introduce
For California residents looking for a convenient way to address their skin concerns, telehealth platforms have become an increasingly popular option. SkyMD is a company that has established a presence in this space, offering virtual dermatology consultations to people across the state. The idea behind SkyMD is to provide fast, accessible, and on-demand skincare solutions without the need for an in-person appointment. Through their platform, patients can connect with board-certified dermatologists, often by submitting photos and descriptions of their conditions, or by scheduling a video call. This model is particularly appealing for those with busy schedules or who live in more remote areas where access to a local dermatologist might be limited. However, as with any online service, the experience can vary. While some users have found the platform to be a great way to get prescriptions and medical advice, others have raised concerns about the quality of care and the billing process. This article aims to provide a factual and comprehensive look at SkyMD from the perspective of a local user in California, drawing on real customer feedback to paint a clearer picture of what to expect when using this service.
The company’s model is built on convenience, allowing patients to seek treatment from their homes, at any time of day or night. This flexibility is a major selling point for Californians with demanding jobs or family commitments. The platform advertises its ability to handle a wide range of dermatology issues, from acne and rashes to more complex conditions, and aims to provide quick responses. The physical address listed for SkyMD at 6605 Nancy Ridge Dr, San Diego, CA 92121, USA is a corporate office, which is common for a telehealth company that operates primarily online. This means that a client's interaction with SkyMD will not involve a visit to this physical location. Instead, all care is delivered virtually through a computer or smartphone. This distinction is crucial for local users to understand; the "clinic" is a digital one, and the accessibility is defined by an internet connection, not a physical commute. While this virtual-first approach offers unparalleled convenience, it also means that the typical in-person doctor-patient relationship is different. For locals in the San Diego area, this means you can consult with a dermatologist without having to navigate traffic on the I-5 or find parking in a busy medical complex. The ease of access from anywhere in California is a primary benefit, allowing residents from different cities to connect with a dermatologist on the platform.
As a virtual dermatology service, SkyMD offers a variety of treatments and services through its online platform. The focus is on medical dermatology and providing prescriptions for skin conditions. These services are all delivered remotely, with communication occurring through secure messaging or video calls. It is important to note that the specific services available can depend on the individual doctor you are connected with.
- Virtual Consultations: Patients can submit photos and detailed descriptions of their skin condition to a dermatologist for review, or schedule a real-time video call to discuss their concerns.
- Prescription Management: Doctors can diagnose conditions and send prescriptions directly to a patient's local pharmacy for a variety of skin issues, including acne and rashes.
- Treatment Plans: The platform is designed to facilitate the creation of personalized treatment plans to help patients manage chronic skin conditions over time.
- Medical Dermatology: The platform addresses a broad spectrum of medical skin issues, such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, and rashes.
- Patient Portal: A secure online portal allows for easy communication with the doctor's team and for tracking the progress of a treatment plan.
This virtual service model is built to provide a streamlined experience for those seeking dermatological care without the wait times often associated with in-person appointments. The ability to get a prescription sent to a local pharmacy is a key feature that makes the service practical for a California user.
Based on customer feedback, the features and highlights of SkyMD can be a mixed bag, with some aspects proving very positive for users while others present challenges. Here are some of the key points that have been highlighted by real customers in their reviews.
- Convenience: The primary highlight of the service is its convenience. Users appreciate the ability to receive care from home and not have to deal with the logistics of an in-person appointment. This is a major plus for anyone with a busy schedule.
- Ease of Getting Medication: One review specifically praised the "great" doctor and the "wonderful" experience of getting medication, highlighting a successful outcome for that individual.
- Billing and Insurance Issues: A significant concern raised by a customer was the "sneaky tactics" in the billing department. The review mentions being charged for insurance even after opting for self-pay, leading to unexpected costs. This indicates a potential area of caution for new users.
- Doctor Quality: Another review pointed out a highly negative experience with a specific doctor, describing them as "uncaring," "unknowledgeable," and "unprofessional." The patient felt their medical issues were ignored, leading to a strong recommendation for other users to be aware of potentially "sketchy" doctors on the platform.
- False Advertising: The same customer review alleged that the company falsely advertises that they accept certain insurances, only to reject the appointment when a user tries to book. This is a serious concern for patients relying on their insurance coverage.
- Unresolved Disputes: The review about billing issues mentioned that when they called the company about the problem, the staff "did not want to do anything about it." This suggests potential difficulties in resolving disputes with the company's support team.
These highlights and critiques from real customers provide a balanced view of the service, demonstrating that while the platform has the potential to work well for some, it is not without its risks and challenges, particularly concerning billing and the quality of care provided by individual practitioners.
Given the nature of the service, all contact and communication with SkyMD are conducted virtually. However, for administrative and corporate purposes, their contact information is as follows:
Address: 6605 Nancy Ridge Dr, San Diego, CA 92121, USA
Phone: (858) 900-2766
For California locals, especially those in the San Diego region, SkyMD represents a modern, but not without its potential issues, approach to dermatology care. The service’s greatest strength is its convenience, offering an accessible way to get professional advice and prescriptions for skin conditions without the need to travel or wait for a traditional appointment. This can be particularly beneficial for managing recurring or non-emergency issues. However, the service is not a traditional clinic, and the customer reviews provided highlight some significant areas of caution that local users should be aware of. The negative experiences regarding billing practices, false advertising about insurance, and the perceived unprofessionalism of some doctors on the platform are serious concerns. They suggest that while the technology for telehealth is advanced, the human element of customer service and professional care can sometimes fall short. For a local user, it’s a matter of weighing the convenience against these potential pitfalls. While a positive experience for one user demonstrates the platform's potential, a negative one serves as a strong warning. It is advisable for anyone considering SkyMD to proceed with caution, thoroughly check their insurance, and be prepared to advocate for themselves if any issues arise. This is not a local clinic with a physical presence for in-person support, but a virtual one where the customer experience relies heavily on the individual doctor and the company's administrative support. It is suitable for those who prioritize convenience above all and are willing to take on the responsibility of managing their care and potential billing issues in a virtual environment.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Started using this website in 2022 but stopped using it because the Doctor seemed uncaring and pushed my issue off without prescribing anything ,I then consecutively started using this site again in 2025 to see if anything has changed and the experience so far has definitely been the worst tele-healthcare that I have ever received. They still had the same Doctor page up that I was seen by in 2022 and I accidently booked with her again ( ** I was thinking that I would receive a new Doctor ),She no longer accepted my insurance but did so in 2022 ( Must have lost her contract with my insurance for obviously doing something wrong ) ,I then reached out to support to change Doctors.. In which I was assisted appropriately and I have currently left the doctor that I was seeing in 2022 to go to another Doctor on the site; After leaving her she had her nurses text me that I would owe $99..I texted back that I will not be paying anything to a Doctor/Team who ignored my medical issues the first time and diagnosed me without prescribing the appropriate medication and insisted that I go to a pharmacy and purchase something OTC for the skin condition that she diagnosed me with. The Doctor seemed very unknowledgeable and unprofessional the first time so why would I want to be consulted a second time by her,My visit status for her will never make it out of 'standby' as I will not be paying someone who is uncaring towards patients needs. And I won't out her name but I just want future users of this site to be aware that some of the Doctors on SkyMD are seriously sketch af.They advertise that they accept insurances but when you try to book they reject the appointment, That is definitely false advertising. This website gets a 1 Star because of my experience.
Jun 01, 2025 · Bree C.My doctor with SkyMD was great and my experience for getting medication was also wonderful. However, seems like their billing department can get sneaky. I don't remember ever giving them permission to charge my insurance and opted for self-pay. I happily paid the flat fee, but they still charged my insurance. Now I owe then more money. When I called them, they did not want to do anything about it. I am not a fan of such sneaky tactics. I would advise to attend them with extreme caution.
Jul 25, 2023 · KushPersonally I had an excellent experience with this service. It was like any doctors appointment I had. Put in my medical history, reason for visit, photos, I talked to the provider and he was amazing really listened to my concerns, Dr Kevin Wright. He also gave me great recommendations on what I could do to help my skin as well as some affordable products I could add to my skincare routine that would address my issues. I did receive a tretinoin prescription and it was sent to my pharmacy and filled with no issues. I will absolutely be doing a follow up visit in 6 months with the same provider.
Jul 15, 2023 · Brian HThis was a great service to be evaluated by a competent doctor through zoom. Dr Bina Adigopula listened to my son discuss his symptoms and understood what was appropriate to treat my son’s sinus infection and pink eye. The service provided a doctor’s note for his school and also provided a coupon to reduce the cost of his eye drop’s prescription.Customer service was exceptional. I will definitely use SkyMD in the future.
Apr 15, 2023 · ANITA SOLISThis service is garbage. They say it will cost $80. I put in insurance to see if it would cover anything. Turns out even if your insurance won’t cover anything, Sky MD still uses it. We got a bill today for more. If we didn’t use insurance, the cost would have been $80. Because we tried to use insurance it was an additional $300. How does that make sense. Be very careful using this scam of a service.
