I am genuinely saddened by the way Dr. George and her staff have treated my four month old baby. We were referred to her by our pediatrician for treatment of a pediatric skin condition that would require specialized care. We went to see her even though they were not in network with our insurance, as we were told they are the only local pediatric dermatology office. She prescribed us a medication, provided a sample, and placed a referral to a cardiologist. We were told the first dose of the medication would need to be given in the cardiology office for monitoring. The earliest cardiology appointment was about a month out, and in the meantime our baby continued to experience discomfort. The concerning encounter happened after the appointment with Dr. George. A few weeks later, we found out that there was another local dermatology office that sees children that would be in network with our insurance. I reached out to Dr. George’s office to ask for records to be transferred to the new office. I spoke with a staff member, who after consulting with Dr. George told me that they were going to cancel my cardiology appointment and that I would need to return the samples to their office if I was not going to follow-up with her. This behavior can’t be explained by anything but retaliation. I felt that we were backed into a corner to continue to followup with her, as I did not want our cardiology appointment cancelled leading to further delays in care for my infant. This is not only unprofessional, but unethical behavior that should not be tolerated. I write this review in hopes of preventing others from such a negative experience.edit: we did see the cardiologist. Afterwards, I again called to cancel my dermatology followup and ask again that records be transferred to the new physicians office. The receptionist became upset with me, specifically that I took my baby to the cardiology appointment that “they set up for me” and subsequently hung up the phone on me. When I went to my cardiology followup today the receptionist there told me that the dermatology office called to cancel my baby’s cardiology followup appointment. Needless to say the cardiology office did not cancel the appointment as they knew this was inappropriate. I am at a loss. - Beeta Akhavan

For parents in Florida, understanding the options available for their child's dermatological needs is crucial, and this overview aims to provide insights into what this practice offers.

The need for specialized pediatric dermatology arises from the unique nature of children's skin and the specific conditions that can affect them, from infancy through adolescence. Pediatric Dermatology of the Palm Beaches positions itself as a local solution for these specialized needs. When a child experiences discomfort or a persistent skin issue, parents naturally seek the best possible care, and having a local expert who focuses solely on pediatric cases can be a significant comfort.

Parents in Florida are constantly seeking reliable medical professionals who can provide both effective treatment and compassionate care. While the core mission of a specialized pediatric dermatology practice is to diagnose and treat skin conditions in children, the overall patient experience, including communication and scheduling, also plays a vital role in a family's decision-making process. Understanding these aspects is key for local users navigating their child's healthcare journey.

This article will delve into what Pediatric Dermatology of the Palm Beaches offers, including its location and the types of services typically found in a specialized pediatric dermatology practice. We will also touch upon important considerations regarding patient experience, drawing from publicly available information to provide a comprehensive and factual overview for local families in Florida who may be considering this practice for their child's dermatological needs.

Location and Accessibility

Pediatric Dermatology of the Palm Beaches is situated at 3355 Burns Rd #204, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410, USA. This address places the clinic within a professional or medical complex in Palm Beach Gardens, a well-developed and accessible city in Palm Beach County. Burns Road is generally known within the local area, suggesting relatively straightforward navigation for residents.

For Florida families, accessibility is a key factor when selecting a healthcare provider, especially for pediatric appointments. Being located in Palm Beach Gardens often means convenient access from various surrounding communities such as Jupiter, Juno Beach, North Palm Beach, and even parts of West Palm Beach. The presence within a medical building or complex typically offers designated parking areas, which can ease the stress of finding a spot, a common concern in busy Florida areas.

Palm Beach Gardens benefits from excellent road networks, including proximity to major arteries like I-95 and U.S. Highway 1. While the exact building access on Burns Road may require specific directions, its overall position within this well-connected city contributes to its accessibility for families relying on personal vehicles. For those considering public transportation, it's always advisable to verify local bus routes that might serve the immediate vicinity of the medical complex.

The location in a professional building on Burns Road implies a dedicated and professional environment, consistent with a specialized medical practice. This centralized setting within Palm Beach Gardens is designed to serve a broad range of families across the greater Palm Beaches area seeking expert pediatric dermatological care.

Services Offered

  • Diagnosis and Treatment of Pediatric Skin Conditions: Specialized care for a wide array of skin conditions unique to infants, children, and adolescents, as indicated by the specific referral for "treatment of a pediatric skin condition that would require specialized care." This would include common issues like eczema, acne, warts, molluscum contagiosum, and more complex or rare dermatoses.
  • Prescription and Management of Medications: Prescribing appropriate medications for pediatric dermatological conditions, as seen when "medication" was prescribed for the infant's discomfort.
  • Coordination of Care with Other Specialists: Facilitating referrals to other medical specialists when a skin condition has systemic implications or requires a multidisciplinary approach, as demonstrated by the referral to a "cardiologist" for monitoring related to medication.
  • Follow-up Appointments and Ongoing Management: Providing continuous care and monitoring of chronic or persistent skin conditions in children.
  • Patient Education: Guiding parents on managing their child's skin condition, medication administration, and general skin care practices for children.

Features / Highlights

  • Specialized Pediatric Focus: The primary highlight is their exclusive focus on pediatric dermatology, meaning they are dedicated to the unique skin care needs of infants, children, and adolescents, offering specialized expertise.
  • Local Referral Network: As suggested by the pediatrician's referral, the practice appears to be a recognized entity within the local medical community for specialized pediatric skin conditions.
  • Prescription Capabilities: The ability to prescribe necessary medications and potentially provide samples for immediate use is a key feature for acute conditions.
  • Interdisciplinary Referrals: The capacity to refer to and coordinate with other specialists (e.g., cardiology) when a skin condition has broader health implications.

However, it is important for local users to also consider the following points based on the provided customer reviews:

  • Concerns Regarding Professionalism and Communication: One review details significant issues with staff communication, perceived retaliation for seeking in-network care, and unilateral cancellation attempts of specialist appointments. This suggests potential challenges in administrative and patient relations.
  • Appointment Delays: Another review consistently notes "45 min or more" wait times to see the doctor, even when staff confirm they are on time. This indicates a potential pattern of extended delays in patient wait times.
  • Patient Record Transfer Issues: Difficulties encountered with transferring patient records to another office, suggesting administrative hurdles.
  • Ethical Concerns: The perception of being "backed into a corner to continue to followup with her" due to potential care delays raises serious ethical questions for some patients regarding patient autonomy and continuity of care.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For Florida families in Palm Beach Gardens and the surrounding areas, Pediatric Dermatology of the Palm Beaches offers specialized care for children's skin conditions, a crucial service for parents seeking targeted medical attention for their little ones. The existence of a local practice solely dedicated to pediatric dermatology means that families do not have to travel far to find a specialist who understands the unique nuances of developing skin and childhood dermatological issues. This specialized focus is a primary reason why a pediatrician might refer a complex case to this office, as highlighted in one of the reviews, underscoring its role in the local medical ecosystem.

The convenient location within Palm Beach Gardens, easily accessible from various communities in Palm Beach County, is also a significant benefit for busy Florida families. Proximity to major roads and potentially ample parking eases the logistical burden of medical appointments, which can be particularly challenging when bringing a child.

However, for local families, it is also important to consider the overall patient experience as detailed in some customer feedback. While the clinic provides essential services like specialized diagnosis, medication prescriptions, and critical referrals to other specialists (such as cardiology), concerns raised about communication, wait times, and administrative practices are vital for prospective patients to acknowledge. The reported issues regarding record transfers and perceived attempts to compel continued follow-up are serious considerations for any family prioritizing smooth, ethical, and patient-centered healthcare.

In conclusion, Pediatric Dermatology of the Palm Beaches serves a necessary function in the local healthcare landscape by offering specialized pediatric dermatological expertise for Florida's children. For families whose pediatricians recommend a specialized referral, this practice is a local option. However, as with any medical provider, potential patients should weigh the benefits of specialized care against all available patient feedback to ensure the practice aligns with their expectations for professional communication, efficiency, and patient advocacy. Families should consider discussing these concerns directly with the office or their referring pediatrician to ensure the best possible experience for their child's care.
