Family Dermatology provides a comprehensive range of dermatological services, catering to various skin conditions and concerns. While specific details on every single procedure might require a direct inquiry, a typical family dermatology practice focuses on both medical and some cosmetic aspects of skin care. Based on the nature of a general dermatology practice and patient feedback, here are the likely services offered:
- General Dermatology: Diagnosis and treatment of common skin conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, warts, and rashes.
- Skin Cancer Screening and Treatment: Full-body skin exams for early detection of skin cancer, including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. This would also include biopsies and excisions of suspicious lesions.
- Mole Evaluation: Monitoring and removal of moles for both medical and cosmetic reasons.
- Acne Management: Customized treatment plans for various forms of acne, including topical medications, oral medications, and in-office procedures.
- Eczema and Psoriasis Management: Long-term care plans for chronic inflammatory skin conditions.
- Hair and Nail Disorders: Diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting hair loss, brittle nails, and fungal infections.
- Pediatric Dermatology: Addressing skin conditions specific to infants, children, and adolescents.
- Cosmetic Dermatology: While primarily medical, many dermatology practices offer basic cosmetic services such as chemical peels, and treatments for sun damage or fine lines. Specific availability should be confirmed with the clinic directly.
- Cryotherapy: Treatment for warts, actinic keratoses, and other benign skin lesions.
It is important for patients to discuss their specific needs and concerns with the clinic to determine the most appropriate course of treatment.
Family Dermatology distinguishes itself through several key features and highlights, reflecting its commitment to patient care and its unique operational model.
- Independent Practice Model: One of the most significant highlights is that Family Dermatology is described as a "small independent office not attached to a big corporation." This often translates into a more personalized patient experience, potentially offering a different dynamic compared to larger, more corporate healthcare settings.
- Expertise of Dr. Skolnik: Dr. Skolnik is highlighted as a "very nice doctor" and is regarded as "very knowledgeable" by patients. This positive feedback regarding the primary physician's demeanor and clinical acumen is a crucial asset for the practice.
- Local Charm and Knowledge: Uniquely, Dr. Skolnik is also a licensed tour guide for the Concord area. This interesting facet suggests a deep connection to the local community and a willingness to engage with patients on a more personal level, offering a potentially more relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
- Patient-Centric Approach (as per positive review): The positive review praises the overall experience and recommends the office for dermatological needs, indicating that for many patients, the care received is satisfactory and meets their expectations.
- Continuity of Care: The mention of a patient returning for "a number of appointments" over a year suggests that the clinic fosters long-term patient relationships and provides consistent care.
It is also important to note that while positive aspects are highlighted, one review raises concerns about customer service and billing practices, specifically regarding upfront charges and denied claims. This suggests that prospective patients should engage in clear communication with the front office regarding financial policies and insurance coverage to ensure a smooth experience. Acknowledging this feedback is part of providing a balanced and factual overview for local users.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1If I could give zero stars I would. DO NOT go here. They have the WORST customer service. They act like they have the patients needs at heart but it’s total BS. They make you sign a waiver to be seen saying they will charge you upfront (with out giving you a break down or amount) for any claims that are denied!!! EVEN IF You’re INSURANCE COVERS IT. Provider denied claims now become your responsibility. They tell you to take it up with the insurance company and when you ultimately come back to them they give you the shaft. Up charging simple procedures so the insurance company denies it. Save your self the headache and find another Dr. 2 stars for a reason. Trust me and all the other negative reviews. They expect most people to roll over accept their BS. Terrible terrible experience all around.
Jun 04, 2025 · Sean GeorgeThis is a small independent office not attached to a big corporation. I have been seeing Dr. Skolnik for about a year and have been back for a number of appointments. Dr. Skolnik is a very nice doctor and seems very knowledgeable. I have not had any issues with the front office staff. I recommend this office if you are in need of a dermatologist. And be sure to ask Dr. Skolnik about the history of the area since he is also a licensed tour guide.
May 29, 2025 · Robert BurkWe called the day before our appointment to reschedule and we were not notified that we would automatically be charged $75 for rescheduling less than 24 hours notice. We would have just kept the appointment if they actually notified of us that policy at the time we called. To add insult to injury, we received the bill with the wording "we would have certainly appreciated a phone call" which is rather unprofessional considering we did in fact call. The biggest problem is that we rescheduled our appointment and wrote down the time for the new appointment, but when I called to ask about the missed appointment charge the staff claimed we didn't reschedule the appointment. Now I guess I just have to wait and see if we will get another $75 automatic charge for missing that appointment they say doesn't exist.
Sep 09, 2024 · Brian SchusterThis doctor’s office needs to increase their customer service skills. They called to confirm my appointment but did not mention anything about insurance. I showed up for my appointment a few minutes early in case I needed to fill out paperwork and was told they don’t take my insurance. They said I could keep the appointment and pay $400 out-of-pocket and then submit it to my insurance and hope they cover some of it. When I said I’d like to reschedule so that I can call my insurance and find out what is covered, they charged me a $75 missed appointment fee. When I explained that I didn’t miss the appointment (I was there and on time) and asked for an exception, the secretary checked with Dr. Skolnik who refused. My insurance is a major company, and all other medical practices that I or my family attend confirm the insurance ahead of time, especially if they don’t take the major ones. This is not the first issue I’ve had with this dermatologist (the other two appointments I’ve had, I waited over an hour to be seen). So it’s clear to me that my time is less valuable than theirs. My family and I will be finding another dermatologist.
Mar 18, 2024 · Beth EddyI wish our experience was more positive as we got referred here. We first visited 5 months ago with 2 concerns. After waiting a long time in the waiting area, we finally got to see Dr Skolnik. He immediately reached a conclusion for one of the concerns, and rushed us out without adequately addressing the other. The other problem deteriorated over the past few months, and we returned to see Dr Skolnik again. Arriving on time for our appointment, we had to wait 40+ minutes. Dr Skolnik was surprised about the problem, and I had to keep reminding him that was the primary reason we went to see him 5 months ago and that it wasn't treated. We discussed a plan, and before I had time to show him another concern, he rushed out again saying he needed to see other patients. We felt rushed for less than 10 minutes with the doctor, and our questions and concerns were not thoroughly listened to. We will not go back again due to poor experience in the last two visits.
