Dermatology & Skin Cancer Prevention Center Introduce
For residents across Georgia, particularly those in the Decatur area, access to quality dermatological care is crucial for maintaining skin health and addressing various conditions. The Dermatology & Skin Cancer Prevention Center, located in Decatur, aims to serve these needs. This article is designed to provide local Georgia users with an overview of this clinic, its stated purpose, and important considerations based on available public feedback, to help you make an informed decision about your skin care choices.
The name "Dermatology & Skin Cancer Prevention Center" suggests a focus on both general dermatological issues and a vital emphasis on preventive care for skin cancer. This dual focus is typically a cornerstone of good skin health, encompassing everything from routine check-ups to addressing specific concerns. However, it is essential for local users to consider all aspects of a healthcare provider, including their operational practices and patient experiences. Understanding the full picture will enable you to choose a clinic that best aligns with your expectations for professional and effective dermatological care in our Georgia community.
The Dermatology & Skin Cancer Prevention Center is located at 4153 Flat Shoals Pkwy, Decatur, GA 30034, USA. This address places the clinic within a commercial area of Decatur, making it geographically accessible for residents within the city and surrounding areas of DeKalb County. Flat Shoals Parkway is a significant roadway, indicating that the clinic is situated in a location that might be familiar to local commuters and residents.
The accessibility of a healthcare facility is an important factor for patients. For those traveling by car, clinics on major parkways typically offer parking, which contributes to the convenience of a visit. Being in a commercial zone means it’s part of the local infrastructure that supports daily activities. While public transportation options vary by specific routes and schedules in Decatur, Flat Shoals Parkway is generally a well-trafficked area. However, it is always recommended to verify specific public transport links if you plan to use them. The clinic's location aims to provide a local option for dermatological services, though ease of access should be weighed against overall patient experience as detailed in other sections.
Based on the clinic's name, "Dermatology & Skin Cancer Prevention Center," the primary services offered would typically fall into two main categories: general dermatology and specialized services for skin cancer prevention. While specific, detailed service lists are usually available directly from the clinic, here are the types of services commonly associated with such a practice:
General Dermatology: This includes the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of common skin conditions. These might encompass:
Acne management
Eczema and dermatitis treatment
Psoriasis management
Diagnosis and treatment of rashes
Fungal infections of the skin, hair, and nails
Hair loss concerns
Nail disorders
Skin Cancer Screening and Prevention: Given the emphasis in the name, this would be a core service. This typically involves:
Comprehensive full-body skin examinations to identify suspicious moles, lesions, or growths.
Biopsies of suspicious lesions for laboratory analysis.
Education on sun protection and skin cancer awareness.
Guidance on self-examination of the skin.
Mole and Skin Lesion Removal: Procedures for removing benign (non-cancerous) moles, skin tags, warts, and other skin lesions, whether for cosmetic reasons or medical necessity.
Prescription of Medications: Dispensing or prescribing topical and oral medications as appropriate for various skin conditions.
Diagnostic Testing: As indicated by a patient review, proper diagnostic testing for skin conditions would ideally be offered to accurately identify issues.
When considering the Dermatology & Skin Cancer Prevention Center, it's important for local Georgia residents to be aware of certain features and highlights, especially in light of public feedback. While the clinic's name suggests a focus on essential dermatological care, patient experiences provide additional context:
Stated Focus on Dermatology and Skin Cancer Prevention: The clinic's name clearly positions it as a provider for both general skin conditions and crucial skin cancer screenings, which are vital health services for the community.
Accessibility and Location: Situated on a main road in Decatur, the clinic is geographically accessible for many residents in the area, offering a local option for dermatological services.
Concerns Regarding Professionalism and Wait Times: Customer reviews highlight significant issues with staff professionalism and prolonged wait times. One patient reported waiting "over an hour before they even handed me the New Patient forms" after driving two hours for an appointment, suggesting potential operational inefficiencies.
Questions About Diagnostic Accuracy and Medical Credentials: Serious concerns were raised about the quality of medical diagnosis. One review stated a daughter "did not get proper diagnosis or medicine" for skin conditions, which subsequently worsened, necessitating a visit to another provider for proper testing and diagnosis. Furthermore, a review mentioned claims that "no one there is an actual Doctor," which is a grave concern regarding medical credentials.
Billing and Communication Issues: A review indicated a significant problem with billing practices, where a collection letter was received without any prior "bill/statement or phone call from this office of a balance due." This suggests a lack of proper communication regarding patient accounts.
Unusual Practice Advertising: A highly unusual and unprofessional highlight noted in a review was a patient form that "basically let you know the doctor was going to advertise his wife's shoe store, Tonyas shoes, during your consultation." Such a practice raises serious questions about the clinic's focus and ethical conduct during a medical consultation.

For residents across Georgia, particularly those in the Decatur area, the Dermatology & Skin Cancer Prevention Center presents itself as a local option for skin care and dermatological needs. While its name implies a focus on important services like skin cancer prevention and general dermatology, it is critical for locals to approach this clinic with caution and a full understanding of public feedback. The convenience of a local address is certainly a consideration, but it must be weighed against significant concerns raised by past patients.
The reviews highlight alarming issues regarding unprofessional staff, excessively long wait times, and a reported lack of proper diagnosis and follow-up communication regarding billing. More seriously, claims about the credentials of the practitioners and the unusual practice of advertising a shoe store during medical consultations raise fundamental questions about the clinic's operational standards and patient-centered focus. While access to local dermatological care is important, these insights suggest that residents seeking reliable, professional, and thorough skin care may need to carefully evaluate if this clinic meets their expectations for quality healthcare. For locals, making an informed decision about where to seek medical care involves considering both stated services and actual patient experiences to ensure you receive the best possible attention for your skin health.

Dermatology & Skin Cancer Prevention Center Reviews
Incredibly unprofessional staff. I drove 2 hours for my appointment, then waited over an hour before they even handed me the New Paitent forms. I ended up not even seeing a "Doctor" because the whole thing felt like a scam and we left as soon as we could. A few pages into my patient info forms there was a page that basically let you know the doctor was going to advertise his wife's shoe store, Tonyas shoes, during your consultation. We decided it'd be better to visit a real doctors office that focused on the patient, and take a loss for the 5 hours it took from my day. I'm not even sure how this is a legal business, considering I've seen reviews claiming no one there is an actual Doctor. If I could rate it zero stars out of five, I would.
Aug 22, 2016 · Megan HawkinsMy daughter went to this office for some skin conditions on her face and legs. Of which, she did not get proper diagnosis or medicine to take care of the matter. He condition got worse and had to go to someone who knew how to properly test and diagnose. Two months later, she receives a collection letter! She NEVER got a bill/statement or phone call from this office of a balance due. Do NOT waste your time with this group.
Mar 06, 2015 · Connie HarrisThis place is absolute trash! I went against my better judgement and came here despite the horrible reviews. Mostly because I was lazy and didn’t feel like driving far. I get there for my 2:30 appointment only to be told at 3:15 there’s 6 people ahead of me because “doc” is long winded. If you value your time DO NOT GO HERE!
