Colorado Dermatology Center Introduce
For residents of Denver and the surrounding areas, finding a reliable and trustworthy skin care clinic is essential for maintaining health and confidence. When it comes to specialized care like dermatology, it's particularly important to research a clinic's reputation and client experiences. Colorado Dermatology Center, located in Denver, is one such clinic that has a history in the community. As locals consider their options for skincare and medical dermatology, it's crucial to have a clear and factual understanding of what past clients have said about their experiences with the clinic and its primary doctor, Dr. Swinehart. A significant portion of public feedback raises important points for anyone considering making an appointment.
Based on multiple customer reviews, the experiences at Colorado Dermatology Center have been mixed, with a number of clients expressing significant concerns. While a clinic's mission may be to provide professional and compassionate care, the day-to-day operations and patient experiences often tell a more detailed story. Many of the concerns raised in public reviews center around the clinic's professional practices, the environment, and the quality of care, particularly for more involved procedures. The reviews suggest that a number of patients have had experiences that were far from what they expected, especially given the seriousness of dermatological procedures. It's clear from these accounts that for many, the reality of their visit did not align with the professional standards they anticipated. This makes it important for new patients to be fully aware of the public feedback available before committing to a visit.
For example, one customer detailed a particularly troubling visit, mentioning that the office felt "extremely old and creepy" and that there was "old scary medical equipment" in the room. The review goes on to describe a lack of professionalism, with "two nurses asked each other right in front of me who was going to numb me and then the nurse told me that it was that lady's first day. Definitely not what you want to hear right before you're being numbed, should have spoken about that before coming into the room with me." This kind of feedback points to potential issues with both the facility's upkeep and the internal communication among staff. Another client, who had a cyst removed, expressed dismay over a lack of proper surgical attire, noting that they were "DID NOT GIVE ME A GOWN to change into... They got blood on my dress!!" and that the doctor made a comment that "it's not like we're at a hospital... we are doing this on the fly" even though it was a scheduled surgery. This account highlights serious concerns about sterile procedures and professional conduct. Another patient who had moles removed by Dr. Sweinhart stated that the "sutures were way too tight, causing a lot of pain," and the doctor "insisted on leaving the stitches in for three weeks, even though they should’ve been removed in 10-14 days." This led to the patient having an infection and seeking care elsewhere, a very serious outcome. These accounts are a critical part of the public record and should be considered by anyone in the local community seeking a dermatologist.

## Location and Accessibility
Colorado Dermatology Center is located at 950 E Harvard Ave #630, Denver, CO 80210, USA. This address places the clinic in a medical office building within a centralized area of Denver, making it a potentially convenient location for many residents. Its proximity to major roads and Denver neighborhoods could be an advantage for those seeking easy access to medical services. However, the importance of a convenient location is often secondary to the quality and professionalism of the services provided, especially in the context of the serious concerns raised by past clients. While the location itself may be accessible, the overall patient experience is a more significant factor for locals to weigh. It is part of the HealthONE hospital network, which might lead some to believe it adheres to hospital-level standards, a point that has been directly contradicted by patient reviews.

## Services Offered
Based on public information and the types of treatments mentioned in reviews, Colorado Dermatology Center offers a range of services typical of a dermatological practice. These services are intended to address various skin, hair, and nail conditions. As a local patient, understanding the scope of services is important, but it is equally vital to consider the quality of care associated with each service, particularly when reviews describe issues with surgical and post-operative procedures. The types of services offered include:
Medical Dermatology: The clinic's focus is on general dermatology, which includes the diagnosis and treatment of conditions such as acne, eczema, and skin cancer screenings. Patients have mentioned having cysts and moles removed, which falls under this category of care.
Surgical Procedures: The removal of skin growths, moles, and cysts, which were mentioned in patient reviews, indicates that the clinic performs in-office surgical procedures. The reviews, however, highlight serious concerns about the execution and follow-up care for these specific services.
Prescription Management: As mentioned by a client, the practice handles prescriptions for various conditions. One review noted an issue with the prescription process, as the doctor provided a handwritten paper prescription that did not include necessary patient information, causing inconvenience and potential risk.

## Features / Highlights
When considering any local business, its features and highlights are a key part of the decision-making process. However, in the case of Colorado Dermatology Center, the information provided by public reviews offers a different perspective on what might be considered a highlight. Instead of focusing on positive attributes, it's more helpful for locals to be aware of the specific concerns raised by other community members. These points are crucial for anyone evaluating the clinic as a potential option for their health needs.
Experience of the Doctor: Dr. Swinehart is a board-certified dermatologist who has been in private practice in Denver since 1979. This long history in the field might be viewed as a positive, but the detailed negative reviews about his direct patient care are a major counterpoint that must be considered.
Administrative and Front Desk Staff: One review noted that the "front desk staff and nurse were lovely," which suggests that the client-facing staff may be a positive part of the experience. This could provide a helpful first impression, but it does not outweigh the serious medical concerns raised about the doctor and medical procedures.
In-office Procedures: The ability to have minor surgical procedures, such as mole and cyst removals, done in the office is a feature. However, the documented issues with professionalism, lack of proper gowns, and post-operative instructions for these procedures are a significant drawback that locals should be aware of.
Inconvenient Prescription Process: A review mentioned being given a handwritten prescription without key information, which is a major highlight of inefficiency and potential risk. This stands in contrast to the modern practice of e-prescribing and can cause significant inconvenience for patients.

## Conclusion: Why This Place Is Suitable for Locals
For residents of Denver, Colorado, making an informed decision about a skincare clinic is paramount to their health and well-being. Based on the public reviews available, it is clear that Colorado Dermatology Center and Dr. Swinehart have received a significant amount of concerning feedback from past clients. The reviews describe an unprofessional environment, issues with surgical procedures and follow-up care, and instances of administrative errors that led to serious medical complications, including infected stitches. These experiences stand in stark contrast to the expected standards of care for a medical dermatology practice. Given these consistent and serious concerns, it is advisable for locals seeking dermatological services to proceed with extreme caution and to consider other, more highly-rated clinics in the area. While a convenient location and the presence of a doctor with a long history in the field might seem appealing on the surface, the documented negative experiences from multiple clients raise significant red flags. Ultimately, for the safety and health of the community, it is recommended that locals thoroughly research all their options and choose a clinic with a verifiable record of positive patient experiences and professional standards. The well-being of the patient should always be the top priority, and the available public data suggests that this clinic may not meet that standard for many people.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Do not go see Dr. Swinehart. The office is extremely old and creepy, there was a big radio playing and old scary medical equipment in the room I was in. Also very unprofessional, the two nurses asked each other right in front of me who was going to numb me and then the nurse told me that it was that lady's first day. Definitely not what you want to hear right before you're being numbed, should have spoken about that before coming into the room with me.DID NOT GIVE ME A GOWN to change into even though I had a cyst removed so technically surgery. They got blood on my dress!! Super unprofessional, said while he was doing my stitches that "it's not like we're at a hospital... we are doing this on the fly" even though it was a SCHEDULED dermatology surgery in a hospital building. He was way too nonchalant about the whole thingGave me little to no follow up instructions for my wound. Said it would just be "sore" after and that was not the case at all.Gave me a prescription paper instead of calling in my prescription which is super inconvenient because I had to go in and drop it off and then wait and go back to pick it up.Anyways now my stitches are infected. Do not come hereDr Swinehart should retire and this place should close.
Jun 17, 2025 · Sammie ScottI really regret seeing Dr. Sweinhart. While the front desk staff and nurse were lovely, my experience with him was awful. He removed three of my moles, and the sutures were way too tight, causing a lot of pain. He insisted on leaving the stitches in for three weeks, even though they should’ve been removed in 10-14 days. He also handwrote my prescriptions without including my last name or birthday, which is concerning. After two weeks, my stitches got infected, and I ended up having a family member in the medical field remove them because my family and I did not want me to return to his office. I know these will scar badly, but I’m doing my best to minimize it.I definitely wouldn’t recommend Dr. Sweinhart to anyone.
Jan 29, 2025 · julia parsonsGiving this doctor even one star feels like too much. I had an absolutely terrible experience with Dr. Swinehart. My first consult, he barely looked at my skin and prescribed me an antibiotic (without telling me it was an antibiotic) and a topical which he also gave me no information on. I started the antibiotic and it made me feel terrible so I stopped, then when I went back in two weeks later, he tried to tell me 1. He told me it was an antibiotic (not true) and 2. That no one else he's prescribed it to has had a negative experience (I find that very hard to believe, and even so, I did so why are you being rude to me about it?). That is just one example of how rude and disrespectful he was to me throughout my two appointments. This man does not care about your skin and barely takes the time to talk to you to address what you need to do to fix it. Save your time and your money and find a derm who actually cares about their patients.
Mar 05, 2021 · Andrea BodeDr. Swinehart has a pleasant bedside manner and comes across as professional. I inquired at the initial visit as to the estimated cost for his services, and he very much misrepresented the actual charges which came after two areas of basal cell carcinoma were excised for biopsy. A second visit was for tissue excision at his Denver office. I thought the plastic surgery result at the bridge of my nose was not that good, but could have been worse. His bill for two hours of face time was $6,622.00. He does his own biopsies/reports, so there is no independent assessment from another pathologist. Therefore there is every financial incentive for him to take as many tissue samples as possible, and to find as many cancer positives as possible. My insurance paid $5,666.81 which seems like generous payment to me, but he still billed me for another $938.24 which I am supposed to pay out-of-pocket. Because of the cost, I would surely look around for another dermatologist if a next time occurs.
Jan 05, 2019 · Cornelia PaulsenI’ve had good experiences and results from Dr. Swinehart. He has done biopsies and they were read by a secondary pathologist. (Not sure why other reviews say they were not).He has also treated me for pscoriasis and acne. I have had significant improvement in both areas!Everyone is nice and friendly in the office as well. Appointments are quick and the scheduling has never been an issue for me.I would recommend this practice to anyone looking for a dermatologist!
